Homemade Bubble Solution
August 28, 2006
We used a terrific bubble solution for our water play day. (Mr. LaRocque found this great recipe for us) I made up the solution the day before and put it into two flat dish pans and that made it easier for little people to dip into. We used strawberry baskets, pipe cleaners bent into wands, cups with the bottoms cut off and lids with the centers cut out. The favorite bubble maker had to be the strawberry baskets. They made piles and mountains of bubbles and toddlers just need to dip and twirl it around and the bubbles pour out! The recipe comes with several tips for better bubbles. They are:
- Prepare your solution at least a day ahead of time for the best results.
- Bubbles really like humidity and shady days.
- Avoid windy days.
- Don't slosh your bubble maker around, that just creates suds and suds are bubble poppers!
- Make sure your bubble maker and anything your bubble may touch is wet.
- Remember bubble solution is made from soap and if toddlers rub their eyes, they will probably sting.
- Playing with bubbles can be slippery and messy. Play outdoors if possible or in the bathtub with supervision!
Bubble Solution
4 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup dish soap (Joy or Dawn works well, experiment to find your favorite)
1/2 cup corn syrup
Combine the water with the dish soap. Stir well, but do not shake. For stronger bubbles, stir in 1/2 corn syrup or more dish soap. Let sit several hours or overnight for best results.
HAVE A BLAST!
