Varsity Boys See Action
The Rock Creek 8th grade Varsity boys basketball team is in the heart of their season playing several games a week this time of year. Most recently, the Mustangs took on the Silver Lake Eagles at home on Thursday and traveled to play the Rossville Bulldogs on Monday.
Against the undefeated Eagles, the Mustangs struggled defensively against the bigger Eagles team, giving up 44 points. However RC was able to get some offense going in the second half including several nice three-pointers to close within 12. Leading the way for the Mustangs was Eric Willard with 8. Adam Schmitz and Ryan Harshbarger each tallied 7 points. As a team they went 6 for 12 from the 3-point line.
On Monday against Rossville, the Mustangs had a close battle the entire game. At the half, it was 12-10 Rock Creek with the Dawgs tying it in the fourth, 19-19, to take the game into overtime. Rossville jumped out first in the overtime, holding the lead until Logan Miner answered with a 3 pointer to put Rock Creek on top again. Down the stretch it was the free-throw shooting of Dillon Johnston that sealed the deal for the Mustangs. Johnston was 5 for 6 from the line in overtime and he was 11-12 for the night. Rock Creek came away with the 27-23 overtime win.
The Mustangs are 5-2 on the season.
