MS Outlook: Distribution Lists

Hide Recipients' Names

by Ruby Zabel

February 08, 2008

In Microsoft Outlook 2007, when sending e-mail to a Distribution List you can conceal the recipients' names by simply using the BCC: (Blind Carbon Copy) option instead of the TO:option.

Note:  The maximum number of names that you can include in a distribution list depends on the size of the contact files for each contact.  There are no specific rules but in general a distribution list can contain between 50-70 names and e-mail addresses.  A maximum number of e-mail addresses, without added contact information, is approximately 125.

To display the Bcc: field in all new messages that you compose, from the Options Tab choose Show Bcc

2.  Start your new message.

3.  Click TO: and choose YOURSELF.

4.  Click BCC: and choose your DISTRIBUTION LIST.
