Class of 2011 Begins Exit Project Process
November 10, 2009

Several changes are currently underway for the Class of 2011 Exit Project. The Exit Committee has held junior parent meetings in an effort to get parents the pertinent information regarding the exit project process. Senior advisors will be meeting with all junior students on Wednesday, November 18, to inform them of the current changes and to explain the entire exit process. Juniors will be completing the project proposal form prior to beginning the research paper, which is a new format. The Exit Project Manual has been revised and is available to parents and students.

The project proposal form is due to senior advisors on Tuesday, January 19. The form will need to have all mentor contact information, signatures, and an outline of the project. The Exit Committee will review the forms on January 25 and then return them to students. Time will be given for students to make revisions if necessary. In February, the juniors will begin working on their research paper in Junior English.

If junior parents or students, have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Exit Committee. Please click the link below to find all of the necessary information and forms.

Ready - Get Set - GO!
May 22, 2009

Please follow the guidelines below if you plan to begin your exit project over the summer:

  • You need to have a completed proposal form with all necessary signatures and/or revisions. Submit this to your advisor by May 22, 2009. Although you may have been given the go-ahead on the project idea, the proposal is not officially approved until all signatures and mentor contact information is submitted. If your proposal form needs revisions, the steps must be retyped in a new form and stapled to the original. Be sure to discuss any changes to the project proposal with your mentor.
  • Document your time spent on the project. Remember that training/learning experiences can be only half of the 15 hours. Take a copy of the project time log with you over the summer and fill it out as you go. This is not merely the number of minutes worked, but also specific details about what you did. Be sure to add personal thoughts about the successes and failures you encounter along the way and add your own reflection, emotions, etc.
  • Document proof of project with pictures or video. All project work should be carefully documented with pictures and/or video. Take several pictures of yourself doing your project, taking the training, etc. This will assist your advisor when assessing your project next February. Try to document the project in various stages (especially beginning, middle, and end). A good way to do this is to include your mentor and have them take some pictures or video.
  • Make copies of the mentor contact forms. Your mentor is your best ally. Use their expertise to assist you. Don’t be afraid to meet with them MORE than the required 3 times. Take copies of the mentor contact forms with you this summer and have your mentor sign one every time you meet. You can jot down the meeting details and then type them when you return to school (YES, they are required to be typed). Your advisor will copy and paste the signatures.
  • Coordinate your schedule with your mentor. If you schedule an appointment with him or her, please be sure that you show up for it. You don’t want to inconvenience your mentor by missing appointments.
  • View the evaluation rubrics. All the evaluation rubrics are available on the Rock Creek website or on the school network. It is important to familiarize yourself with the grading requirements so you include all necessary components of the project.
  • PROCRASTINATION is a senior’s worst enemy. You will be plenty busy during your senior year without the added stress of waiting until the last moment to complete your graduation requirement. Please-please-please, do as much as you possibly can before school starts again.
  • MISSED DEADLINES are also your worst enemy. Every deadline missed is points off on the final grade. It’s difficult enough without losing points for no reason other than not planning ahead. You will be provided with a list of deadline dates when you return next fall. For now, you have met the deadline of completing the exit paper and the project proposal. For those of you who did not turn in a proposal, you now have a 20 hour project instead of a 15 hour one.
  • Got questions?? If you or your parents have any questions or concerns over the summer, please contact your senior advisor.

ENJOY! If you’ve picked a topic that you are truly interested in, you will have a great time and a wonderful learning experience as you complete your senior exit requirements.
