1st Ever Boys State Track Champion!
June 01, 2009
The
Rock Creek high school boys and girls track team had its best
showing EVER at the state
track meet in Wichita this past weekend!
Eight
athletes competed in 11 events with 6 of them becoming STATE
MEDALISTS-- a new Rock Creek track record. Last
year, we qualified 10 athletes in a school record 13
events, but no one came home with a medal.
On
Saturday afternoon, the last athlete to compete for Rock Creek
was senior Andrew Wahlmeier in the boys javelin.
Andrew ended up shocking
the other contestants by throwing almost 20 feet
farther then ever before--the 1st Rock Creek boy to win a state
championship in track!!!
Other
medalists included Courtney Stillwagon, who was state runner-up in
the girls high jump with a school record jump of 5' 4"; Adam
Kibodeaux who finished 5th in the boys high jump; Tyler Umscheid,
who finished 6th in the boys high jump; Dustin Miner, who finished
7th in the boys triple jump; and freshman Lizz Herrs, who came in
7th in the girls shot put.
Other
Rock Creek athletes who competed were Ashley Gareston, who came in
8th in the girls discus and 10th in the girls shot put; and
Brian Sixbury, who made the 110M Hurdles finals, and came in
8th.
Stillwagon
and Kibodeaux also competed in other events. Adam came in
11th in the boys triple jump; while Courtney placed 11th in the
girls long jump.
All
in all, it was the most successful weekend in Rock Creek state
track history. Congratulations athletes!
