Classy Soloist!

by Janet Armstead

April 23, 2010

The Kansas State University Concert Choir and Orchestra Concert at McCain Auditorium was held April 20, 2010.  The stage was full, with choir on risers, the orchestra in front of them, and in front of the orchestra-stage center front were four chairs for soloists.  The soloists were three adults and one twelve-year-old boy.
The young soloist was St. George student, Kohl Case.  He has been working for a month and a half on the Lenard Bernstein piece, Chichester Psalms.  When it came time for his solo, he stood up and sang his heart out!  If he was very nervous, it was not apparent.  Oh, he didn’t sing in English; the piece is written in Hebrew!
The KSU Orchestra and Choir were directed by Dr. Julie Yu.  She “discovered” Kohl at the Kansas Music Educators North Central District Honor Choir which she directed in early February.  She is pictured with Kohl at McCain Auditorium.
Kohl is the son of Scott and Chandra Case.  He had a huge family group, Mrs. Armstead and church friends at McCain to support him.  Kohl represented St. George School and Rock Creek District in the “classiest” of ways.  Congratulations Kohl!
