Westy Fun Day

Westmoreland Elementary School students didn’t know they were still learning on our Fun Day before Spring break. Students and staff members rotated in different learning stations. The technology station included Virtual Reality, laptops, various Ipad apps, and Incredibox.com on the Smartboard.  The students and staff also learned about how we associate certain colors with certain things by watching an episode of Brain . . .

18th Annual Baseball/Softball Camp

Rock Creek is hosting the 18th annual Baseball/Softball camp on Saturday April 1. The baseball team & coaches will host the baseball portion of the camp in Westmoreland while the softball team & coaches will host the softball portion of the camp at Rock Creek.  There are 2 sessions in the afternoon for different age groups.  This year, McDonalds and Baskin Robbins will offer certificates for each participant. . . .

Students Win Caring Counts Contest

The Pottawatomie County FCE recently sponsored a contest that local fourth graders could write an essay and submit an illustration depicting the theme, "Caring".  All fourth grade students from Ms. Hodges, Mrs. Trent, and Mrs. Hill's reading classes at St. George Elementary submitted a short essay on Caring and a drawing that reflected this characteristic.  The students whose work was chosen to be . . .

Holliday Wins Horizon Award

Students Win Science Fair Awards

Three St. George students competed in the Wamego Regional Science Fair March 10th and 11th.  There were several contestants in the elementary, intermediate, junior, and senior divisions and they were split by their area of science.   Ella Rhodes placed first in the Cellular and Molecular Biology category for the intermediate division for her experiment on how algae acts similar to human cells in the early . . .

Pott County FCE Essay Contest

Chloe Purvis, 4 th grade student in Mrs. Seitz’s class at Westmoreland Elementary School, won 3 rd Place in the Pottawatomie County FCE essay contest. Local fourth graders could write an essay about “Caring”  and submit an illustration depicting the theme. Congratulations Chloe!

Third Graders Dissect Non-Fiction

    Some third graders at St. George Elementary wanted to find a fun way to pick out text features in non-fiction so they had a, "Dissecting Non-Fiction Day" in class.  They geared up for the event to kick off their non-fiction unit using rubber gloves and masks.  These non-fiction dissectors were able to find headings, captions, glossaries, indexes, and so much more using non-fiction magazines and books. . . .
