Winter Weather Closing and Delays 2017-2018
USD 323 Parents, Students, and Staff:
Winter season is upon us and it is time for a reminder regarding inclement weather situations and school. If a change from the regular school-day schedule is warranted, you will receive an e-mail and text message through the Swift notification system.
Notifications will also be supplied to WIBW TV/Radio, KSNT, and KMAN 1350 when possible. I will also announce this information on my Twitter account @RockCreekSupt and on our district website.
If at all possible any decision to close or delay the start of school will be made the night before. Sometimes advance notification is not possible and communications must be made in the morning. Typically, if a delayed start is used, we will go with a two-hour delay. All bus pick-ups, drop-offs, and starts to each school’s day will be exactly two-hours later and morning pre-school will be cancelled.
When a decision is made to cancel or delay school, the safety of our students will be the deciding factor. If school is in session and you do not feel that it is safe for your child to be on the bus due to winter road/driving conditions, please call your child’s attendance center and the absence will be excused.
If winter weather catches us during morning routes and it is too late to delay or cancel school, we will begin school at the regular time and then plan for the best way to get students back home safely. This could be an early release or waiting for the road crews to get the roads treated and dismissing at our normal times.
If there is need to adjust an after school activity, such as tutoring, a concert, or competition; there will be notification through a Swift message, Twitter, and on the district website. Many times the determination to cancel or reschedule and event cannot be done until all schools involved can check with worker and facility availability. A reschedule date, or a definite cancellation, will be forwarded as soon as possible.
