"My favorite thing about music is who I create it with." - Miss Dolenz
Honor Choir Tour
This photo was taken with the Junction City High School Choir Chamber Singers during our May Honor Choir Tour. The student's each partnered with a high school singer to sing Eric Whitacre's Lux Aurumque (Light and Gold). The experience helped students hear what they could sound like if they kept singing throughout middle and high school.
Rehearsals will be held each Thursday from 3:30-4:30.
Holiday Tour- December 7th
Christmas Caroling at Meadowlark and Via Christi Retirement Homes.
Honor Choir and Band Concert is December 7th at 7:00!
St. George Elementary School participated in a world-wide event to Sing for Peace on September 21st. Students in grades K-6 sang with the 3rd annual global choir for peace along with ensembles from over 50 other countries.
"Singing as a group is a simple, unifying, and powerful act that helps us to feel more calm, centered, uplifted, and connected. It requires us to listen and respond- to ourselves and others- and allows us to express our feelings and thoughts harmoniously through our shared voices."
The 5th and 6th grader students at SGES had a real treat on Monday, October 16th- they were guests at a private concert by the professional ukulele player, Jake Shimabukuro. On a whim music teacher Karis Dolenz contacted Jake’s agents in the summer to arrange for a time for her students to hear the nal ukulele virtuoso who would be in Manhattan for a McCain Concert at KSU. Prior to the performance, all the students had four weeks of instruction on the instrument- developing basic skills such as reading music and playing melodies. By watching Jake’s private performance and asking him questions, they were able to witness first-hand the cool tricks and songs that can be done with the ukulele. During a Q/A time, Jake comically showed the kids the first song he’d ever written, a silly song about his childhood hero Bruce Lee. They also loved his cover of George Harrison’s While my Guitar Gently Weeps, and his original, fast-paced Dragon! They were perhaps most excited when Jake gave each of them a high- five after the concert! A few even exclaimed, “Best field trip ever!”

About your Teacher
Miss Dolenz is a recent graduate from K-State! Go CATS!
She is excited to begin her 2nd year at SGES! Her favorite thing about teaching elementary school music is when students get so excited to play a musical game and they don't even realize they're learning! She loves singing, playing ukulele, learning new things, exercising, reading stories, traveling, and dancing.
By the time students graduate from SGES, Miss Dolenz's goal is that they are able to find atleast one outlet in music that they adore including singing, playing instruments, critically listening to new music, composing, improvising new melodies, or moving to music.
