WES Preschool Learns About Transportation
Playing with cars and all kinds of vehicles is a favorite activity in the Westmoreland ECSE Preschool classrooms! The past several weeks we have been learning about transportation. Most of the time we travel by land, but we can travel by water and air, too. We thought of 29 types of transportation.
One student even thought of feet! Then, we made a chart with pictures to match. We explored atlases, maps and globes, and then practiced our cutting skills and made a map collage. Another fun project was making a map with house shaped sponges stamped in paint. We then added roads and details to our houses.
We ended our unit with a Traffic Report on Main Street in Westmoreland. The morning class counted the colors of cars that went by between 9:40 a.m. and 9:50 a.m. Ms. Renee helped the students mark an “x” on our report to mark the right color. Red cars went by the most. The afternoon class counted the colors of cars that went by between 2:40 p.m. and 2:50 p.m.
Each student had a clip board and marked their report as the cars went by. Silver/gray cars went by the most. All together we found out there are a lot of red, white and gray or silver cars in Westmoreland! The morning class enjoyed getting lollipops from Hoffman’s Pharmacy (compliments of Ms. Connie) after their work was completed, and the afternoon class was surprised with suckers from Bill Fairchild from Fairchild Insurance. We enjoyed learning about different vehicles and maps during our transportation unit.
